BFS Open Night

Went along to the BFS open night on Friday. Good laugh, much better than the disastrous March open night where only about three people turned up.

Topics of conversation included:

Seeing that as David Tennant's Dr Who is written as a sex god does Sylvester McCoy resent his stint as the character not being given the same treatment?

What stuff scared you as a kid? (For me it was Dr Who, the BBC version of The Day of the Triffids and the 50s version of The Invasion of The Body Snatchers.)

How exactly will Michael Bay fit his required amount of explosions (at least fifteen) into his remake of The Birds?

And what would be the most pointless remake Hollywood could produce? My money is on a shot-by-shot remake of Gus Van Sant's version of Psycho.

Plus, due to the large amount of writers present, a lot of whinging about there not being enough markets for stories. Translated this means, "My story has been rejected so many times I've run out of people to send it to."

Michael Bay + The Birds can only mean exploding sea gulls being hurled at people.

Will you be watching the remake of The Hitcher...?

Not got any immediate plans to watch The Hitcher. Will probably watch it eventually one night when there's nothing else on the telly.

I read with dismay about Bay and "The Birds" - oh dear. I watched the Van Sant "Psycho" until Ann Heche reached the motel and then gave up, I felt ill.

I realise Hitchcock was making films 'a long time ago' but, come on, not everything has to be remade.

Like the Hitcher, which was perfectly fine as it was. And as good as Sean Bean might be, he's not got that Rutger Hauer 'staring through you, my God this man is certifiable' look about him, has he?

You never know, Bay may actually produce a faithful adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier's story set in England... with exploding sea-gulls, of course. ;-)

As for the Hitcher, no-one would better Rutger Hauer but it's been years since I've seen the original and to be fair Sean Bean looks pretty dangerous from the trailer.

Anyway, nothing could be worse than "Paradise Lost" and the current crop of s&m porn disguised as "horror".

I'm not going to watch any of the remakes. I liked the originals too much and think Hollywood should be making films of our stories.
