Unfortunately, until the writers strike is over, nothing is really going to progress on this show. There isn't even a script yet.

Just going by the info in jc's link Dollhouse looks like it's going to explore similar themes to the River plotline in Firefly/Serenity and the Danger plotline in Astonishing X-Men.
